KIDDIES AND KITTIES

I just have to throw this out there, yuck..i really dislike this pic of me. However, that is beside the point. I put this pic up of our little family.
You see as you may know, our kitties are like our kiddies. We love em so much. This christmas we took some pics on our cheap$150 camera. This is the 3rd camera we've had to buy in the last 2 years. Somehow they break a lot, especially when we let other people borrow em. I love our kitties and they make us so happy. Everyone else is lucky to have kids. I think we are lucky to have cats and sadly I know when we have kids, these kitties will not receive a lot of love. So, although I am hopeful and willing to someday have kids, I will settle for our beautiful puttycat and black smokey. And next year we should consider taking better pictures, but we are so last minute. Anyway, the pic turned out ok. Let me add this random thought. My husband is in the running for a job promotion at work. I hope he gets it, because it is a major pay raise. Only God knows what is best for our family.

There is a difference

When I tell people I am going to be a dental hygienist, they have a puzzled look on their face.

School is how much?? And you're going to be doing that??

Hold up people. Here is a pic of a dental Assistant...not to be confused with a dental hygienist. that was me in 2005.
___And a litte bit of background__

1. I love teeth. I studied Dental Assisting back in 2005. It was great to polish teeth and take
x-rays. To greet patients, to setup the dentists instruments. But I never ended up actually working as an assitant...my life went in a different direction, and i focused on working elsewhere and doing other stuff.

2. Then Finally after I got married...I didn't begin school again until a year after when I really thought about where I need to be. I was an older student and was really on taking classes part time and working part time too.

3. As i mentioned earlier I did not end up working as a dental assistant. Just externships and shadowing. And somethimes they paid me...but it was not very much, However, I did help the hygienists and I wished I could be them someday. So I have been studying towards that for a long time.

4. I never thought I would get into a dental hygiene program, but I did and I am proud of myself.

5. Several times I changed my mind on what I might study and took courses that followed
other career paths..maybe not a bad idea...but THAT IS WHY its taken me a little bit longer than usual.

6. Finally I decided to have the guts to apply for dental hygiene school. First school I applied to, didn't think I'd get in, but they pretty much said, If I didn't get in, they wanted me to work there
at their front office. How cool is that?? So I got in..

7. I will be starting school May 2011!! I am thankful to my Heavenly Father for such a great blessing in my life.

8. I have the best support from steves family and steve as well. And my family too.

I am excited to start the Dental Hygiene program at the UCDH.

9.And here is the difference.
Mostly...
1. you work your own hours!! And those hours are usually 8-5pm
2. You don't assist the dentists. You assist yourself, or the dental assistants, can help you.
3. You get a better salary...wayyy better salary!
4.You can numb patients, give injections
5.You are pretty much your own boss (for the most part)
6. You don't just get to polish, you get to scale and check for periodontal diseases
7. Educate people on better brushing/flossing habits.
There are other great things I get to do..but these are the main ones. I am excited and just
need to make sure I budget this entire year. steve has come up with spreadsheets for us that rock!!
Mostly...I can't wait toget my Bachelor's degree.
