Christmas 2013

Barsh Family

So..We came to the Christmas Eve PJ opening mini-dinner. We had some light dinner and treats. Eggnog and soda. Cookies and Ham. We decided we should get more pics of Steve's family on The EVE and on Christmas Day. We missed out on Carter and Brooklyn opening their gifts. But we saw them the next day. On Christmas day we had yummy breakfast and the kiddos including the unborn baby got tons of gifts. Here is a video of the fun we had on the 24th and 25th of December.

Choy/Laparra/Orellana Family
We had to have Guatemalan Ponche ( a fruit drink) and Tamales! We had a spiritual family home evening as well as a gift exchange. In the end We played a game called Minute to Win IT> and then we all sang loud so Santa could come . At midnight was the Best Part..we all hugged to celebrate Christmas, opened gifts and ate some more!

We are so grateful for everyone on both sides of the family for giving us baby gifts for future Baby ; We heart you. Los queremos mucho!! Feliz Navidad.

Hard Life.Easy Life. Blessings

I finished dental hygiene school ..GOSH it was frickin HARD!!!  Thanks to everyone who was my patient. Thanks to the kind people who helped me both classmates and teachers.

Today I have my registered dental hygiene license.
I fell at times but came back up stronger than ever. Hygiene school taught me so many things:
Trust, Honesty, Motivation, Patience, Confidence, Loyalty, Endurance and Appreciation.

I couldn't have done it without these wonderful people.

My Wonderful friends who supported me from day 1.
Steph-my friend and confidant ..an experienced woman and friend. Gave me many rides and studied with me till the wee hours of the night...haha wonderful memories. Truly the nicest person.
Lindsay-this girl will cut you..jk. She is tough on the outside but once you get to know her has the kindest heart..is always looking out for others and a fabulous hygienist...( I may have noticed more than you thought..considering I worked right next to you.) Confident and Studious.
Jill..oh jilly hillbilly..nah just silly Jilly..very kind girl. Not sure we worked together..but we shared many secrets and had fun during school.

I argued with this sweet girl many times..but man she is amazing no matter what
We are still friends to this day. I pray for her as she is battling cancer.
God bless her! I must visit her this week.
These amazing gals! We still call and text yup:)
Natalie My homie..she treated her patients like jewels. What a doll what a gem!! can I say more? We are bffs.
Brittany O...we always were thinking the same thing and laughed our heads off...another great great friend.
Brittney silly brittney always asking me when I was taking boards...ha ha. Well Britt..i took my last final the 2nd week of January...fyi. So do you wanna know what I passed. Very kind during clinic and giving.
Halloween craziness :) Can't believe we had time to party.
My dear friend Lachin who told me I was the nicest person she knew. We worked together during clinic 1. I miss her so much. Lachin was so sweet. Stephanie was dental barbie...costume winner!!
Jessica  my cleaning buddy when I used to scrub the school toilets on Fridays.
Tauna whom I really got to know my last semester. Wild Child..she's a doll.
Lachin and Natalie
 My First Patient EVER!!!!!!!
I don't know how this chick managed to have a baby and a 4.0 gpa all in a couple of months of hygiene school. Props to her.
Ambria my orthodontist appointment reminder and also a
Legacy award Winner! Michelle..I believe her and I worked on sealants together and cleaned teeth of the same family.
My very first day I didn't know what the heck I was doing..but I sat next to elise who helped me fill a personality test. And the asian princess whom I never got to work with :(
 our last day of clinic
Oral cancer screenings for the community
 Cabin retreat baby!
The first teacher who always believed in me from the beginning. Love her guts

 My friends
My support throughout this whole process. Now I will have to support him.
Halfway through his MBA
My Dear Dear friend Carli. We shared laughs and tears
Halloween Madness. Stephie Poo and our class President Abby
I never ended up using my dex cards so Brooklyn let me borrow cindy powell. I read it a week before the exam..didn't finish reading it, but I passed the NBDHE. That means I'm smart right?

CHANGES

So...WE'RE MOVING!! Several people have asked me why and so to clear up the confusion, I'll just blog about it. We are moving for 2 reasons and no we are NOT selling our home.

1) Steve has been wanting to move for a while now. He has brought it up several times. We prayed about it and felt it was the right thing. He wants to begin investing in real estate. It has been his goal for many years now. When we first got married we wrote out our long and short term goals and it just so happens, we looked at our goals since we got married and it was there..it said under Steve's goals, that he wanted to invest in real estate. Yes after his dad.

2) We want to move closer to Steve's work. He works in Cottonwood which is about 50 min drive according to google maps, however with construction it only gets worse. He had been working in South Jordan for a while and then the company moved to Cottonwood. So he's been commuting to SLC for about 5-6 yrs now. He doesn't really carpool because most of his co-workers live in SL County.

We are going to be renting our home to a couple with 1 baby and one due in June. My husband and I found the right people after several people came. We laid out a strict contract, we hope things go as planned. We don't expect everything to go perfect, so we have a backup plan in case it fails. We expect they will be good to our home and it is definitely a risk, but we are currently wanting to take risks at this point in our lives. I have lived here for 5 yrs and Steve has lived here for 6 yrs. We really have many hopes and aspirations for our future as well as a family we want to start at the end of this year.
The Lord has blessed us tremendously and we are so grateful for that. I am truly blessed to have a husband that works hard to pay our bills and tuition. He is currently in a Master's program too. Wow he really is amazing!! We will be moving temporarily in Orem where my brother in law is buying a new house, and after that our plans are to buy a home in Lehi, yes Lehi. I will graduate December 17th..I am so nervous and excited and hope I can find a job as soon as possible, because currently I don't work. Despite our many imperfections, weaknesses and trying times, we always manage to put the Lord first in our lives..and really that is the only way we have survived.
We will be renting our home for 2 yrs..we may or may not come back..we'll see.
P.S. the cats will be moving with us

KIDDIES AND KITTIES

I just have to throw this out there, yuck..i really dislike this pic of me. However, that is beside the point. I put this pic up of our little family.
You see as you may know, our kitties are like our kiddies. We love em so much. This christmas we took some pics on our cheap$150 camera. This is the 3rd camera we've had to buy in the last 2 years. Somehow they break a lot, especially when we let other people borrow em. I love our kitties and they make us so happy. Everyone else is lucky to have kids. I think we are lucky to have cats and sadly I know when we have kids, these kitties will not receive a lot of love. So, although I am hopeful and willing to someday have kids, I will settle for our beautiful puttycat and black smokey. And next year we should consider taking better pictures, but we are so last minute. Anyway, the pic turned out ok. Let me add this random thought. My husband is in the running for a job promotion at work. I hope he gets it, because it is a major pay raise. Only God knows what is best for our family.

There is a difference

When I tell people I am going to be a dental hygienist, they have a puzzled look on their face.

School is how much?? And you're going to be doing that??

Hold up people. Here is a pic of a dental Assistant...not to be confused with a dental hygienist. that was me in 2005.
___And a litte bit of background__

1. I love teeth. I studied Dental Assisting back in 2005. It was great to polish teeth and take
x-rays. To greet patients, to setup the dentists instruments. But I never ended up actually working as an assitant...my life went in a different direction, and i focused on working elsewhere and doing other stuff.

2. Then Finally after I got married...I didn't begin school again until a year after when I really thought about where I need to be. I was an older student and was really on taking classes part time and working part time too.

3. As i mentioned earlier I did not end up working as a dental assistant. Just externships and shadowing. And somethimes they paid me...but it was not very much, However, I did help the hygienists and I wished I could be them someday. So I have been studying towards that for a long time.

4. I never thought I would get into a dental hygiene program, but I did and I am proud of myself.

5. Several times I changed my mind on what I might study and took courses that followed
other career paths..maybe not a bad idea...but THAT IS WHY its taken me a little bit longer than usual.

6. Finally I decided to have the guts to apply for dental hygiene school. First school I applied to, didn't think I'd get in, but they pretty much said, If I didn't get in, they wanted me to work there
at their front office. How cool is that?? So I got in..

7. I will be starting school May 2011!! I am thankful to my Heavenly Father for such a great blessing in my life.

8. I have the best support from steves family and steve as well. And my family too.

I am excited to start the Dental Hygiene program at the UCDH.

9.And here is the difference.
Mostly...
1. you work your own hours!! And those hours are usually 8-5pm
2. You don't assist the dentists. You assist yourself, or the dental assistants, can help you.
3. You get a better salary...wayyy better salary!
4.You can numb patients, give injections
5.You are pretty much your own boss (for the most part)
6. You don't just get to polish, you get to scale and check for periodontal diseases
7. Educate people on better brushing/flossing habits.
There are other great things I get to do..but these are the main ones. I am excited and just
need to make sure I budget this entire year. steve has come up with spreadsheets for us that rock!!
Mostly...I can't wait toget my Bachelor's degree.

I'M A LITTLE AHEAD BUT ILL COME BACK

I don't rememeber what I wrote here. I think I blogged about how lazy i am. Steve didn't like it...so I took it down. Let me go back I am lazy sometimes. but mostly I just sell myself short. I think I am of worth.

I think I have the best friends anyone could ask for. I have great neighbors and family. I have a few friends at church. To elaborate on my friends/neighbors....who are soo cool..maybe too cool for me, that we don't hang out.

One of my neighbors is a zumba instructor. The other neighbor is a nurse and my sister in law. My other neighbor visits me regularly and usually brings me candy! My other neighbor is sooo sweet always looking fab with her nails done and looks so cute all the time. My other neighbor...is not so close, but has great doggy partys and has many things in common with me. On the other side of geneva, my friend is a great cook and a little cake/pastry chef and is willing to go biking with me. My other friend is so pretty and sits in Relief Society always being a great example to me. Other people include a very pretty blonde lady who makes the announcements each week..such dedication!! The other neighbor is so nice and makes me feel so welcome especially in my new calling and gave me a blankie for christmas. The other neighbor is so crafty and so on top of everything. I also love how kind the RS President is. I am here to just tell you how good I have it. I love people around me:) Even those who read my blog....who are few, but I know who they are.

Mother I love you, mother I do, father in heaven has sent me to you

Mom thanks for everything that you do. I know you are not perfect, but you are the best!!!! You taught me to love people, you were always so kind to others. I love how you can call me during the week and talk like a little kid and say i luv you my baby gaby! I appreciate your love. You didn't teach me to sing, dance or play soccer, but you taught me to love God. During my teenage years, I asked so much from you, and you did the best to give me everything that I needed and wanted. Thanks for putting up with my room when I was little. Thanks for going to my choir/drama performances at school. Thanks for being my taxi and my hairdresser and my stylist(even thought it was crazy clothes). Thanks for the moments we laughed, and cried together. Thanks for taking care of me when I was sick or hurt and praying with me. Thanks for criticizing me when I didn't look sharp (btw you still do that). Thanks for loving my husband. I like to think back to the past to brag and say we were great kids compared to others (sometimes). We did not budge during or after sacrament. I always heard other Mom's going On and On about their kids. But you kept SILENT, you hardly ever bragged about us, but I knew deep down inside you were very grateful, and since we were good according to you, you only pushed us to be better and had more expectations for us. I love your example, your relationship with dad and how happy you've kept him. I don't know how you managed to put a plate on the table every night for him. I admire how hard you work. I admire all of your efforts. I love to always catch you reading the scriptures, Wow mom, you are my hero!!....And I could go on forever.

Happy Mother's Day NANI, love Gaby. Oh and Mom thanks for telling me great things about grandma, I know Abuelita (your mom) is not here with us anymore, but I am sure she is very proud of you and all of the great things you have accomplished.

IRENE... MOM (INLAW)

So Irene (mom), where do I begin?? Although I have only known you about 3 years, I feel like I have known you forever. I am sooooooo thankful to you and your friendship, love and support. I am so happy to know you, I am so happy to see your face light up when I enter the room. I just laugh inside when you tell me a story about one of your daughter's (kids, pregnancy, surgery, funny moment, good news, ) after the 5th time and you seem so excited. You See normally, I get annoyed but other times, I just smile because you are sooo happy and I love to see you happy. You have changed my life for the better. You have changed my perspective on life (maybe not politically) but in other things. Thanks for making me understand the other side of life I never knew. You are soooooo giving, sometimes and in my own opinion I think TOO GIVING!! But it is what makes YOU so special. I appreciate everything you have done for me and steve. I love you for raising Steve. I know you had many daughters to wash clothes and do dishes, and normally steve doesn't love doing those things (oddly I have met guys who are clean freaks) but tonight he bought me flowers, did the laundry and washed the dishes....sigh I love him and in part thank you for that. Thanks for coming over and talking on the porch with me for hours. Thanks for loving me. I thought because I was latina, you might have a problem with that, but I was wrong. Out of all the girls in your lovely family, I feel we are the closest. I can call, text or bug you at anytime and you will come flying. Maybe if we were the same age, we could be Best friends, but then the whole Steve thing wouldn't work out. I love the person you are and the great example you are to your family!! You are a strong, hard working, giving and god fearing woman!!! Happy Mother's day...I'm hoping everyone will give you a kiss and a hug tomorrow, you deserve it!! Love your new daughter (inlaw) Gaby.
