Update on life and GUATEMALA TRIP!!

Gaby and Steve

Gaby, Jared, Guenia

Oh my It has been a long time since I wrote on my blog. Lets continue from where we last left in July. Ok, from July-August, I decided it was time to take my little wee daycare to the next level OR continue my education. It seemed I wasn't sure, so I prayed about it and with the Support of Steve, I decided to continue my education. I decided to take statistics, chemistry, biology and a communications course. These are pre-requisites for the dental hygiene program I am pursuing. Well, good news because it is now December, finals are over and I know with a surety, that I have passed all my classes and gotten A's and B's. Hurrah! Now moving on. Our 1 year anniversary was on the 20th of November. Steve had planned fun stuff for us to do, but I guess it's my fault, and they didn't go as planned. So we went out to The old spaghetti factory in provo and it was great. We came home and danced to a cute song and then watched a movie and went to bed. Steve bought me beautiful flowers and I couldn't be happier. I bought him something different than a tie. I bought him a portable adapter, so when he is on the go, he can plug in his laptop or phone or anything, instead of trying to find an oulet. I hope he liked it. He bought me a picture frame to put pictures of me and him. I loved it :) Our camera had broken at the time, so we didn't get to capture these moments digitally, but at least the memory will be engraved in our hearts. Steve is working and in school too. He is really good at math. If he only focused more on math than W.O.W. Ok now another update, my brother got married yay!!! The first thing we did is buy a 10 pixel camera.
I had my birthday party at my house. I figured, I could save people some money by not having to go out and eat somewhere. I had sushi and a choco fountain and rockband (since we never use it, I figured people would have fun with it. More or less, I just wanted to spend time with my friends. It felt more like that then a birthday, which made it even better.

My bro and sis live in Guatemala and we flew down there during Thanksgiving break. I wish we could have stayed longer, but I had school the monday after. It was a great time! I hadn't seen my sister over 6 years and bro for 7 years. I was super happy that hubby bought the plane tickets and was willing to go despite him not knowing any Spanish. Steve enjoyed himself, who can blame him because Jared and Guenia are my heroes and 2 of the greatest people I know. Jared and Guenia spoke to him in English the whole time and a lot of my family spoke English too. We got to go back to my home country and see the changes, which I don't really remember. I saw a lot of assault rifles, cool people and scary streets, a large amount of people selling illegal stuff cd's and such (Pirates). I saw the craziness of the 3rd world country, like crazy crazy traffic (never will steve and I complain about Utah traffic) and the really poor areas, the middle class and the rich. On the other hand, everything was cheap, I loved going shopping, I got my hair done, I saw antigua (colonial type city), it was warm, I saw a volcano and people there were so nice and caring. I saw some of the guatemala chapels and everything was so cool. It was awesome! Que viva Guatemala!!! I loved the Guatemala temple and we got to go for my brother's sealing. It was so special. I now have a new sister in law. She is great and nice and beautiful. She recently graduated from law school. I will definitely make the time to go back there next year and stay longer. Jared and Guenia showed us everything in the little time we were there. I want to go to the book of Mormon lands in Tikal Guatemala. The only thing is, Steve wants to take me to France next year, I wouldn't mind that either. So today I am being lazy and logging in and out of facebook. I didn't sleep 2 days ago because I was studying (cramming) for finals. I did good and was ecstatic to get out of school. But now, I'm bored and I shoveled my driveway which to me was a big task, 3 cars fit in my driveway, now I look outside and all my work is gone. It snowed again and my footsteps aren't even there anymore. And now I don't want to go back out in the cold.

A list of things I need to do today.

1 Sell back my freakin expensive textbooks.

2 Pay a provo city library fine--I first need to find the books to return.

3 Go shopping for Christmas gifts.

4 put folded laundry away

5 pour fresh kitty litter

6 vaccum

7 groom myself

8 now that I have time, cook and make dinner

And ...upcoming events, 2 weddings and no funeral to go to on Friday, and a friend's Bday party on Saturday!

Dear anyone who is reading this or anyone who is on my page. Thanks! I appreciate the fact that you care about me or my life, even though it may not have any meaning to you. I love you. Merry Xmas!

American Idol... Auditions! La La La!!!!!

So this year Fox along with Ame rican Idol decided to come to Salt Lake City for Season 8. I being the singer that I call myself, decided I would regre
t my whole life not auditioning. I am a go od sin ger. I have been singing since I was 4 and writing my own silly kid songs and stuff. I worked my way up to singing songs in Spanish because of my dad. My number #1 Children's song is Cheese Attack! I wish I was more confident, but I think my confidence grows everyday and being on stage brings out my confidence a lot more than when you meet me in person. I am NOT cocky. My husband's family says even if I say I'm cocky they still wouldn't believe it. So with all respect on my part and on anyone's part and because I need to get this info out there, I would rate myself an 8 on a scale of 1-10. I took voice lessons last year and my teacher was amazing in almost every way. The problem was that she lived too far away and I hate driving to her house. 2nd she talks too much! We had half hour lessons and she spoke for 20 mins about life and how great I was and how excited she was for me. Again, she was amazing and great but I wish we would sing more and practice breathing more. Currently, I have an excellent voice teacher, but she lives even further away. My family and my husbands family have said I sing good and that's great, but it's family and I can't really accept their opinion because they love me and will tell me anything to make me happy. Sometimes my dad will be the honest one and tell me, "by the way you're off key." I have sang at fundraisers, the national anthem at sporting events, and at talent shows. If you want to hear me. I'll try to send you an audio clip. Back to auditioning to American Idol. My husband Steve got work off and was very very supportive. I love him so much! I didn't want to get him too excited because I knew it was pretty much you had to be Mariah Carey, be really bad or get lucky. So even though I knew those things I was still willing to go. I would still go again too. We waited in line really early and that was just to register. Finally we got our wristbands and we were off ready to go home and come back the next day to stand in line again..Yahoo. How exciting...not really. Well I met some people and they were so nice. It was so cool to have this experience to meet and see so many different people with different voices and talent. Utah really has a lot of beautiful people with great talent. During the line they were taping everyone from start to finish. Stephen and I may end up in some camera footage, but it will probably be for just a few seconds. So if you are going to be going to the bathroom during American Idol shows, beware you might miss a clip of us..ha ha. I saw former American Idol Justin Guarini, and Jon Peter Lewis from Salt Lake. Here is a pretty cool upclose shot of him. After finally entering the Energy Solutions Arena, we sang songs as a group and we did a lot of filming and taping us screaming into the camera. They setup 10 tables at the bottom in the Arena. They had about 2 producers sit at each table. They were able to judge us based off of us going in groups of 4. We had about 10 sec each. The producer I went to looked pretty bored. I really tried my best approaching her with a fun and happy attitude. She looked at me for a second and then when we all finished, she didn't look at anyone just said, "Thanks for coming, we are looking for something else at this time." Then we went into the non-winners exit. Many people were so upset and angry saying the show only did this as a publicity stunt..yada yada yada. I felt relief. I wasn't worried or angry. The only thing I wished was that I wasn't just another boring number. I felt I did even better than I had practiced. I was happy to meet my husband outside and we drove home. What a great event. And one thing I thought about was that everyone went with the driven motivation of hope. It would have been great to move on, but maybe next time I can prepare more than just a week. Here are some pics. We saw Ryan Seacrest at the ESA. It was so fun. Some guy yelled out really loud, "Ryan, I want to have your baby!" We all laughed. It was an excellent experience, I wish more people would have the guts to audition. I may be shy at times and people wouldn't know that I sing. But whenever there is a chance to showcase talent. I will be there. It is not the end of me. Thanks Steve I love you.

2nd Annual Friend Reunion?

Last year we went to Tucano's, so we went to the cheesecake factory on Saturday night. Karen got everyone together. But we missed the twins, Cynthia and Elsie's family. It was yummy and overall after the long wait it was fun. Barb and I got to see Jenny's baby. She is so cute and apparently she won the freedom festival baby contest. It was great to get together with friends who we had from our old spanish singles ward.

Mary's Fashion Show

So my beautiful friend Mary participated in a fashion show on Saturday. It was cool! Some of the girls could've done better but I thought they were all cute and lovely. The biggest critic of the night...my husband Steve. Mary did great. I wish they would've let her hair be an afro! She has sweet hair. So here are some pics from the event you all missed. It was a Macy's Fashion Show.

Yes we had a 6 mo Wedding Anniversary..Don't Hate.

Hello Again! We had a 6 mo wedding Aniversary. . Yes I know you may think it's weird, but Steve and I needed some time off to ourselves. We needed to celebrate this time because we won't ever celebrate 6 mo. again. So if you think we're weird, whatev! We had a picnic full of food, love and fun. We had a little red Basket and a blankie. We took sandwiches and Guava Juice (Our Favorite Jugo) and jello and goodies. We kissed and danced to ten seconds to a song because my laptop died. Then we took some crazy pics. It was a great day and the rest of the day I spent it with Steve. At night we went to Carabba's Italian Grill and were a little disappointed for a few reasons I won't mention. It's our favorite restaurant still, don't worry. We had a blast hanging out together. I laughed so hard I cried. Steve is the best husband. He's funny and silly. That was our wonderful day. Oh ya we also exchanged gifts. I got a bath & body works gift set from Steve and I got him a tie and black socks so he doesn't pull a Michael Jackson again at work or church. We figured we needed to save money for a real present in November of 08 (Our 1 yr Anniv.) Jk..but really we do.

The latest Buzz

So this year I got Steve involved into American Idol. Secretly he hates Paula Abdul with a passion. He says she says the dumbest comments. I laugh because he gets so worked up about it. Being from Utah he wants D. Archuleta to win. I too am a fan. He's got talent, but David cook is good too. Either way, we will be hearing plenty of music on the radio from both. And Steve said we'd buy Arch's Cd. Well D.C. Won and we were sad that D. A. didn't win but it's not like his career ends here. We know he will still make millions. Good luck to both.

The Aftermath and our Honeymoon

Our honeymoon was so amazing. After our wedding we went to the Anniversary Inn and stayed the night at the rose garden. It was fun and we had food that the N.H. house gave us. We ate and then the rest is history. The next few days were filled with fun and craziness from my family. We spent Thanksgiving with Steve's family but we only ate pies because most of his family had to go to their in-laws. When we went over to my aunt's for Thanksgiving dinner it was crazy. We had our cousins and uncles and aunts there. It was so fun! Steve was like I don't understand what anyone is saying. I told him I could translate in French. He just glared and said, "English please." Ok so the weirdest thing happened. Just because we are from Guatemala, it doesn't make a difference, we always have turkey in the U.S. I have never had a Thanksgiving without turkey. My parents always have it. Guess what? The year Steve is with us, the women decide to make steak. I was so upset and not at the fact that Steve was there. I wanted and had been craving Turkey. AHHHH! Well we had steak and my mom whispered in my ear that she was going to cook turkey Sunday and that it was my aunt's idea. Well, we had steak and it was good, but I wanted my turkey. After eating, we had a talent show and I sang and my family sang and danced, played guitar, my 60 yr old aunt and uncle danced to the twist. Then we played charades and everyone was talking and Steve was like I'm the only one here who isn't trilingual or bilingual so I translated for Steve and soon he started laughing too. That Saturday we left for the island of kauai, Hawaii. It was a great adventure. We rented a car for the whole week. We stayed at a timeshare 5 star hotel. It was pretty neat and a new experience for me and Steve. We had a lady plan our stay there for the 7 days we were going to be there. One day it was a boat ride, the next a 5 hour tour, the next hiking, scuba diving..etc.. Well we were so disappointed because the last day it rained so much that they didn't let us go scuba diving. At least we got scuba lessons. We went swimming almost everyday and we did so much I don't even remember. We had to turn down some activities because everyday it seemed we were booked with things to do. We needed time to go to the beach and relax, so on the 29th of November we relaxed. It was my birthday that day. I was happy and we ate out and went to a really nice restaurant. Steve was sad because his GPS didn't arrive in time for us to take to Hawaii. It would've been useful. I video recorded almost everything we did in Hawaii. Taking a camera was a good idea. What awesomeness! Sorry if I mispell anything. We left Kauai with great memories and funny stories we can tell our children. One more thing, we saw several kitties during our stay there in the most random places. Steve and I still laugh about that. After Hawaii, we stayed one day in San Francisco and basically just went sightseeing, we'll have to go back too, I really like San Fran. This was our little trip, hopefully we can go back soon. Next stop Europe...

Our Wedding

Our wedding was really great! It took place on November 20, 2007. It was filled with tears, laughter, happiness, friends, family and most of all a new husband. I was so happy that day and everything was going by so quickly but wonderfully. The experience I had at my wedding ceremony in the Temple was one I would never forget. I felt something so amazing and sharing it with Steve was beyond my dreams. It was so special. I laughed at the last minute details of my wedding. To begin, my hair didn't turn out how it was supposed to be, my dad forgot his tuxedo after the wedding ceremony in the Salt Lake Temple, but I think someone brought it when they arrived later. My mom didn't bring her dress and I was upset, but not enough I just quickly brushed those things off. Second, the exit we were supposed to come out of was closed, so as we came out of the Temple, the photographer, friends and family were waiting for us, but we came out behind them. So in the pictures, it shows that he captured the first moments of us together as husband and wife exiting the temple, but now you know the real story. Anyway ,we had a luncheon at the Joseph S. Memorial building and shared laughs, tears and yummy food. I thank those who were able to be there and share words of kindness to me and Steve. On to the reception.... We had our reception at the North Hampton house in American Fork. Everything did not go perfect with that reception center, but I didn't care it was my day to be happy with Steve and nothing could change that. I appreciated everything that my Mother and Father did. I really appreciated Steve's family for helping me out with my flowers and taking my cake home and so many other things they are sooooo awesome and special. I was happy that our families were there to share that day with me. Thanks to my friends and anyone who came to our wedding. What a lovely day. Everyone danced, dined and seemed to have a lovely time. I was glad to have DJ Azucita and friends that came from Arizona, cousins from Guatemala and anyone I didn't thank. Oh ya Barbara, my sister, I'm thankful to you too. My wedding experience was unforgettable and Steve and I couldn't have asked for more.

About Us

Steve Barsh grew up in Orem, UT. He loved playing street hockey and was really really good at computers ( he still is amazing). He went to Mountain View High School and then he went to UVSC. He served a great mission in the Birmingham, Alabama mission in 2002-04. When he returned he went back to school and graduated from UVSC. The rest of his life is another story, but to break it down he met (Me) Gaby in November of 2006. I Gaby, moved from Guatemala to Utah in 1991. I grew up in Mapleton and Provo. I went to Provo High School and graduated in 2003. After High school I had some adventures, I lived in Arizona and then came back to Utah. I had it rough sometimes, I broke my ankle from skateboarding in 05 and couldnt walk for like 5 months. It was a rough time. Then I had other trials, but I remained strong thanks to my Heavenly Father. After that I decided to go to UVSC in 06. I was attending the BYU 230th ward and so was Steve. We had our first date in November of 2006 at Mimi's Cafe and went to a really fun Hockey game that night. After that we were dating other people and trying to figure out what we wanted ha ha. We didn't officially begin dating until the first of March. Things got from good to great! In July of 2007 we took a trip to the Grand Canyon and San Diego. Steve proposed to me at the beautiful Carlsbad beach in California. He took my breath away. With the help of my bro and sis in law, he sneakily had roses around candles with a ring on top of a dozen roses. It was so pretty. I wasn't going to cry, but I couldn't help it. I have a pic of the beach here in case you want to see. It was really late a night (I know it's dangerous), but no one was there. It was awesome. I had a beautiful engagement ring, but most of all a great fiancee. We got married November 20, 2007. Our wedding was around the thanksgiving break and we got to spend time with family and then departed to the Island of Kauai, Hawaii. Thankfully we came home from our honeymoon and already had a house of our own to live in. I love Steve more and more everyday. He calls me baby buttercup and I am obsessed with cats so I call him babykitty. Anyway we are silly and goofy and sometimes there are little downs in our life. Mostly we stay strong in the gospel and live our lives as best as we can. Steve and I teach in the primary (sunbeams) and I have a little In-home daycare and Steve works at IBAHN for an ISP in the hospitality industry as an acct. exec. We are grateful each day for the blessings we have. We like to work together and get new things done such as new websites, businesses, investments and now we are working with stocks. Mostly Steve is the little brain behind our adventures, but I figured out I am pretty smart after all. We are both planning on finishing school. We have many goals set for us. We wrote them down and now we have to work hard. As for children, no plans yet. Maybe not for 2 more years, we'll see. I love my family, I love Steve's family and I love my Savior and Heavenly Father. (If you click on the slideshows to the right it should make the pictures bigger)
